Safeguarding
At High Meadow Community School, Safeguarding and Child Protection is at the core of everything we do. We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and expect all staff and volunteers to do the same.
The Senior Leadership Team undertake ‘Safer Recruitment’ training to ensure we safely recruit the right staff and volunteers who are safe to work with children and young people.
We believe that all pupils have a right to learn in a supportive, caring and safe environment which includes the right to protection from all types of abuse; where staff are vigilant for signs of any pupil in distress and are confident about applying the processes to avert and alleviate any such problems.

All staff are trained and updated regularly on Safeguarding procedures and are made aware of important documentation including the School’s Safeguarding Policy and ‘Keeping Children Safe in Education’. Our policies can be found in the section called ‘Useful documentation – Policies’ Our training also includes raising awareness of and providing information about ‘A Child Missing in Education, Child Sexual Exploitation and Female Genital Mutilation’. We also actively support the Government’s PREVENT agenda to counter radicalisation and extremism.
At High Meadow we aim to ensure that:
- All of our pupils are safe and protected from harm,
- Other elements of provision and policies are in place to enable pupils to feel safe and adopt safe practices,
- Staff, pupils, governors, visitors, volunteers and parents are aware of the expected behaviours and the school’s legal responsibilities in relation to the safeguarding and promoting the welfare of our pupils.
Sometimes we may need to share information and work in partnership with other agencies when there are concerns about a child’s welfare. We will ensure that our concerns are discussed with a parent/carer first unless we have reason to believe that such a move would be contrary to the child’s welfare.
Both the Headteacher and Deputy Head are trained as Designated Safeguarding Leads. We also have 4 Deputy Safeguarding Leads who support the DSLs.

Keeping your child safe online
High Meadow Community School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people, we take the children’s safety on the internet very seriously. Keeping safe online is taught as part of our computing and online safety curriculum throughout the year.

Parent Guides:
PEGI provides age classifications for video games in 38 European countries. The age rating confirms that the game is appropriate for players of certain age. PEGI considers the age suitability of a game, not the level of difficulty.

Protective Behaviours
Protective Behaviours is a practical, down to earth approach to personal safety. It is a process that encourages self-empowerment and brings with it the skills to raise self-esteem and to help avoid being victimised. This is achieved by helping individuals to recognise and trust their intuitive feelings (Early Warning Signs) and to develop strategies for self-protection.
We teach the Protective Behaviours curriculum to all children in the Autumn term when the children return from their summer break. We also re-visit this learning at regular intervals throughout the year.
