Our Nursery

At High Meadow Community Primary School, our nursery provides a safe, nurturing and inclusive environment where every child is supported to thrive, grow in confidence and develop a love of learning.

Our nursery provision is fully aligned with the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) framework and reflects the expectations of Ofsted. We place children’s wellbeing, development and sense of belonging at the heart of everything we do.

A Strong Start for Every Child

We recognise that children enter nursery with a wide range of experiences, strengths and needs. Our skilled staff take time to get to know each child as an individual, building warm, trusting relationships that support children to feel safe, secure and ready to learn.

Learning is carefully planned to be:

  • ambitious and engaging

  • accessible to all children

  • responsive to children’s interests and next steps

Children are supported to develop independence, communication, resilience and curiosity through high-quality play-based learning.

Inclusive Practice

Inclusion is integral to our nursery provision. We ensure that:

  • all children access the same rich curriculum, with appropriate adaptations where needed

  • support is planned, consistent and personalised

  • children who need additional help are supported sensitively, without stigma

  • strong partnerships with families and professionals ensure children’s needs are understood and met

Our approach reflects the EYFS principle that every child is a unique learner, capable of making progress and achieving success.

Care, Wellbeing and Personal Development

Children’s wellbeing is a priority. Throughout the nursery day, including lunchtimes, children are supported with:

  • personal care and routines

  • developing independence, such as eating and self-help skills

  • positive social interaction and play

  • emotional regulation and confidence building

This ensures children feel valued, supported and ready to engage fully in learning.

Working in Partnership with Families

We believe that children do best when school and families work closely together. We are committed to:

  • clear and open communication

  • supporting families to understand nursery provision and funding

  • working collaboratively to support children’s development and wellbeing

Our Commitment

Our nursery provides:

  • a calm, welcoming and inclusive environment

  • high expectations for all children

  • skilled adults who know children well

  • a strong foundation for future learning

We are proud of our nursery and the positive start it gives children as they begin their learning journey at High Meadow.

Nursery Fees – Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

❓ Is nursery education free?

All children are entitled to government-funded nursery education from the term after their third birthday.

This is:

  • 15 hours per week for all children

  • Up to 30 hours per week for eligible working families

Funding is provided during term time only and must be claimed using a valid eligibility code (where applicable).

❓ How do I know if I am eligible for 30 hours funded childcare?

Eligibility is set by the government. Parents must apply directly and provide the school with a valid 30-hour code.

Codes must be reconfirmed every term. If a code expires or is not reconfirmed, charges may apply for sessions attended.

❓ What happens if my eligibility changes?

If your eligibility changes or your code expires, please inform the school immediately.

If funded hours can no longer be claimed and your child continues to attend additional sessions, charges will apply in line with the school’s published rates.

❓ What nursery sessions are funded?

Funded hours are delivered during core nursery sessions across the school week.

Any sessions attended over and above your funded entitlement are optional and chargeable.

❓ Why am I charged if nursery education is funded?

Government funding covers education and care during funded hours only.

Charges apply for:

  • Additional nursery hours beyond funded entitlement

  • Lunch supervision (where applicable)

  • Optional childcare outside funded sessions

No charges are made for the funded hours themselves.

❓ What do the funded hours include?

Funded hours include:

  • Early years education delivered by qualified staff

  • Access to the nursery curriculum

  • Learning resources and materials

Funded hours do not include optional extras such as extended childcare or lunch supervision.

❓ Do I have to pay for lunch supervision?

Lunch supervision is optional and applies only if your child attends across the lunchtime period.

Parents may choose whether to access this provision.

❓ How much do additional nursery hours cost?

Charges for additional nursery hours and lunch supervision are published on the school website and are reviewed annually.

Please contact the school office for current rates.

❓ How and when do I pay nursery fees?

  • Fees are invoiced [weekly / monthly / half-termly]

  • Payments are made via [School Gateway / ParentPay]

  • Fees must be paid in advance

The school’s Charging and Remissions Policy applies.

❓ What happens if I don’t pay nursery fees?

If fees remain unpaid, the school may:

  • Contact you to discuss the situation

  • Review or withdraw additional paid sessions

Funded hours will not be affected.

❓ Can my child attend nursery without accessing paid sessions?

Yes. Children can attend nursery using funded hours only.
No child will be disadvantaged or excluded because parents choose not to access paid provision.

❓ Who can I speak to if I need help?

We understand that childcare funding can be complex. If you need support with:

  • Funding eligibility

  • Nursery sessions

  • Payment queries

Please contact the school office, who will be happy to help.
